The Rev. Courtnay Veazey, M.Div., M.S., NCC, was called June 29, 2025 by Second Presbyterian Church to serve as Pastor and Head of Staff. She will join us in early September.
Courtnay currently serves Idlewild Presbyterian Church of Memphis as the Designated Associate Pastor for Outreach, Fellowship, and Recreation. In addition to weekly worship leadership and helping provide pastoral care to a congregation of 1,200 members, Courtnay helped Idlewild reinvigorate outreach ministries following pauses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, led the re-envisioning process for fellowship and recreation ministries, and initiated the annual tradition of the Blessing of the Animals. Additionally, Courtnay led a weekly evening prayer service with Eucharist that served members from the community experiencing food and housing insecurity.
Courtnay earned a Master of Divinity in May 2022 from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where she attended as a Vannie E. Cook Jr. Fellow. Courtnay served on the Student Senate and the faculty’s Worship Committee. She also worked as an Instructional Aide for Elementary Biblical Hebrew, Introduction to the Old Testament, and The Church as a Worshiping Community. Courtnay completed her Supervised Practice of Ministry at Government Street Presbyterian Church (Mobile, AL) in the summer of 2021. Upon graduation, the faculty of Austin Seminary honored Courtnay with the Carl Kilborn Book Award.
