Adult Education & Spiritual Formation

Of the many different kinds of ministries here at Second Presbyterian, we consider the Adult Education ministries to be one of the "nurturing ministries," alongside youth and children's ministries.

As a part of our mission in Adult Education we affirm that discipleship is not purely a matter of knowledge, but also a breadth of experiences of Christian devotion, practice, and discipline.

As we wonder at the life and history of the Church, we seek to appreciate the Reformed tradition as well as the beauty and witness of other traditions, with the hope of sharing in the expanded fellowship of the Church throughout the world.

In this spirit we offer classes that both connect us to the great cloud of witnesses throughout our Judeo-Christian History and urge us to engage our community and world.

June Combined Adult Education Class – Sundays at 9:30

For the month of June, Roger Conner will lead a series of conversations about “Change and Transition.”  Roger is an Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt Law School.  He also does training for NGOs and government agencies across the U.S. on understanding and managing change in our lives, our organizations and our politics.  Recognizing that it's June, the classes will be related, and also designed so that you can benefit from each one separately.

June 6: When change happens to me:  change happens in our jobs, families, homes, and relationships, and a similar process of internal adjustment comes with each.

June 13: When change happens to us:  Understanding the process of adjustment to change that occurs in organizations and groups.

June 20: From Jim to Interim to ?  Applying the Transitions Framework to predict what we and others are likely to feel, how we/they may "act out,"

and how we can avoid the dangers and take advantage of the creative space changes bring.

June 27: Making Change:  How to deal with people who resist change because:  How the fear of Transitions causes people to resist change
